If you’re a nature-lover, you probably don’t want your outdoor gear to affect the beautiful surroundings. Sadly, this is oftentimes the case with most major outdoor brands since they include hazardous chemicals in their products.
How to make the change
Choose outdoor gear that are free of per- and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs). Brands like Vaude, Paramo and Rotauf has chosen to detox their products. Hopefully more brands will join this trend.
Why make the change?
PFCs are used to add a waterproof and dirt repellent finish, but unfortunately they come at a high price. These pollutants take hundreds of years for nature to break down, and have been found in livers of polar bears and in human blood. Research has shown that some PFCs cause harm to reproduction, promote the growth of tumours and affect the hormone system. Animals can also get liver and kidney damage.
Be a climate ninja
Write to your favorite outdoor brands and tell them to stop using PFCs. These brands make gear to be used in nature, then they should be willing to protect nature, right?
